India refuses to send a cricket team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the Asia Cup in 2023, but India’s participation remained doubtful until the Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The top BCCI officials met in Mumbai yesterday, October 18, and agreed not to go to Pakistan for the continental tournament, instead insisting that it be moved to a neutral location.
In a release to the media, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said,
“A neutral location for the Asia Cup is not uncommon, and we have opted not to go to Pakistan.
” I’ve opted to play in a neutral location. ”
It’s worth noting that a BCCI official noted last week that the decision to send the Men in Blue to Pakistan is subject to Indian government approval, but it’s absolutely on the board’s agenda right now.
The BJP-led government’s participation in the country’s cricketing matters is not new, and last week an MP claimed that Ganguly was forced to resign as BCCI president after refusing to join the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
It is worth noting that Pakistan hosted a full-fledged series against Australia, an ODI series against the West Indies, and a T20I series against England.
England will return for the Test and ODI series later this year, while New Zealand will also visit at the end of the year.
