KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a commemorative banknote worth Rs75 to commemorate Pakistan’s 75th anniversary of independence, according to a statement published on Thursday.

The banknote’s design was announced on August 14, 2022, at the SBP offices in Karachi. The note will be accessible to the general public beginning Thursday at SBP BSC offices and commercial bank branches, according to the central bank.

Under Section 25 of the SBP Act of 1956, the commemorative note is legal currency and may be used as a means of exchange for all transactions in Pakistan.

“This is the second commemorative banknote issued by SBP after the issuing of the first commemorative note issued to celebrate the country’s fifty years of independence in 1997,” according to an SBP statement.

SBP and local artists created the motifs and concepts on both the obverse and reverse sides of the currency.

The commemorative banknote was created to pay honour to the leaders who contributed to Pakistan’s founding and to raise awareness about climate change and its effect on the environment.

As a consequence, the reverse of the banknote has pictures of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, and Sir Syed Ali Shah.
