The commercial was for a bank, and Khan and co-star Kiara Advani played a Hindu couple getting married and executing Hindu wedding traditions.

Hindu right-wingers found the advertisement offensive and thought it harmed Hindu culture.

The context Khan entering his wife’s home after marriage, although Hindu custom requires a woman to visit her groom’s home.

Some have applauded the advertisement for challenging gender stereotypes.

A Twitter user queried why people “blame Iran’s Mullah” for the ad’s “advocacy of female equality.”

Another person claimed the advertisement was about “treating our girls with respect and love,” while others called it “progressive.”

Others, however, pointed out Khan’s hypocrisy, stating that he should also reform the traditions and practises of his own faith.

Mishra informed reporters that he got a complaint over the commercial, demanding that the Bollywood star respect Indian customs and refrain from doing such advertisements.
