Apple said on Wednesday that it would begin updating its iPhone models in India in December to make them compatible with 5G networks, as Indian authorities pressured mobile phone makers to embrace the high-speed network.
The business stated it will deploy software updates to newer models, including the iPhone 14, 13, 12, and SE, which, according to industry insiders, do not presently support the network.
“We are working with our Indian carrier partners to offer the finest 5G experience to iPhone consumers as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance is finished,” Apple said in a statement.
“5G will be enabled with a software update and will be available to iPhone users in December.”
On Oct. 1, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 5G services amid considerable excitement, with top telecom operator Reliance Jio announcing that the service will be accessible in four locations and competitor Bharti Airtel in eight.
According to a government document obtained by Reuters, top officials from India’s telecommunications and IT sectors will convene a conference on Wednesday for early 5G adoption, inviting executives from Apple, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi, as well as local telecom operators Reliance, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea.
