Two women were brutally murdered in Kerala, India, in what authorities believe was an instance of human sacrifice.

Padma and Roslyn, two ladies from Kerala’s Ernakulam, went missing a few days ago and were killed near Thiruvalla.

They allegedly agreed to become a sacrifice for a marriage. Rosyln was kidnapped in June, and Padma vanished in September.

In an alleged example of “human sacrifice,” the victims’ necks were sliced and their corpses were hacked into pieces. According to India Today, this sacrifice was undertaken in order to “obtain riches and success.”

Bhagaval Singh and his wife Leela, the pair accused of making the sacrifice, have been detained.

According to Kochi City Police Commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam, “the murder was part of ritualistic human sacrifice.”

He went on to say that the police were gathering confessions from the accused, and that the intermediary who linked the pair with the ladies had been paid to do so.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated such a crime could be committed by “only people with ill consciences,” calling it a “unthinkable” atrocity.

He called for judicial action against such acts and said that an extensive investigation was underway.
