Internet service providers (ISPs) and cellular mobile networks in Pakistan are once again facing disruptions.
It’s also unclear if the under sea cable or the floods are to blame. Due to political concerns, PTA using the internet cannot be fully ruled out.
The PTA, which seems to be busy with non-issues, is helpless in obtaining the customers’ basic right, a functional and stable internet connection.
It’s 2022, not 2007, when we had limited connectivity and just a few hundred thousand internet users.
To today, the country has over 115 million internet users who rely significantly on the internet for their household and commercial needs.
If this continues, the PTA will soon be without a marketplace to regulate.
Current Situation
We have received confirmation that PTCL’s fibre is experiencing problems in the south area, which is presumably the cause of today’s outage.
However, it was not yet known how long it would take to completely restore services to regular levels.
“PTCL consumers in the Northern and Central areas are experiencing Internet outages due to several optic cable breaks.”
“Our staff are working hard to restore services as soon as possible,” a PTCL spokeswoman said in a statement published just after midnight.
It should be noted that Jazz claims that its services were not affected by PTCL’s fibre shutdown today or the day before yesterday.
