ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad Capital Territory administration has declared Wednesday, August 13, 2025, a local public holiday in the federal capital as part of preparations for Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day celebrations and to mark the recent victory in Marka-e-Haq — the name given to the latest military success against India.

In an official notification shared by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon on X (formerly Twitter), it was stated that the holiday will apply across Islamabad, excluding offices providing essential services such as the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Capital Development Authority (CDA), ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO, SNGPL, and hospitals.
The decision comes as Independence Day 2025 preparations reach their peak across Pakistan. Government buildings in Islamabad have been illuminated with green and white lights, while national flags adorn rooftops, vehicles, and public spaces. Markets are buzzing with stalls selling flags, buntings, patriotic caps, and children’s outfits in the national colours.
This year’s festivities carry added significance following Pakistan’s success in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos under Marka-e-Haq, a symbolic “battle of truth” against India. The military triumph has amplified patriotic enthusiasm nationwide.
Last week, Islamabad’s district administration imposed a ban on the sale and use of plastic horns (commonly called bajay) to maintain public order during the celebrations.
Following the directions of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the federal capital has been decorated with vibrant cultural displays, artistic installations, and thousands of flags. From its wide green avenues to iconic landmarks like Faisal Mosque and Pakistan Monument, Islamabad is radiating national pride ahead of the big day.
