Karachi Airport Main Runway Upgrade Completed Ahead of Schedule
ISLAMABAD, Aug 06: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has completed the Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) work on the main runway (07L/25R) at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, nearly a month before the planned deadline.

The PQC phase began in late December 2024 as part of a major runway rehabilitation and modernization project. Originally set for completion at the end of August 2025, the work was officially finalized on July 30, 2025. According to the PAA, the early delivery was made possible by advanced slipform paving technology and continuous 24/7 construction operations, ensuring progress despite operational challenges.
Alongside the runway paving, the Airfield Lighting (AFL) system upgrade has also reached a significant stage. State-of-the-art runway and taxiway lights, taxi guidance signs, high-quality electrical cabling, and constant current regulators have been sourced from leading global aviation suppliers and are currently being installed.
Final touches — including fresh runway centerline markings and taxiway surface painting — are now underway as part of the project’s concluding phase. These enhancements are designed to boost both the safety and efficiency of Pakistan’s busiest airport for domestic and international flight operations.
“This milestone reflects the dedication and expertise of our engineers, contractors, and project management teams. Completing the runway upgrade ahead of schedule demonstrates our commitment to delivering world-class aviation infrastructure in Pakistan,” said a PAA spokesperson.
The Pakistan Airports Authority reaffirmed its mission to modernize and expand airport facilities nationwide, ensuring they meet international standards and can accommodate the growing demands of air travel in the region.
