Kidnappers Freed 5 of 7 Telecom Workers Kidnapped in Swat

Five of the seven workers of a Pakistani telecom tower construction business who were abducted yesterday in Swat have been freed, according to trustworthy sources.

According to Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) sources, seven workers of a private telecom company’s subcontractor business were kidnapped yesterday, with five freed today and two still held captive.

According to sources, kidnappers kidnapped workers of a local subcontractor (a Pakistan-based company). The local subcontractor, according to MoITT sources, got a contract from a foreign corporation working on a project for the Universal Service Fund (USF). The business was constructing telecom towers in Swat.

“The kidnappers had not communicated any demands for the release of the abducted personnel,” the sources continued. “However, the freed employees indicate that the kidnappers questioned them about the purpose of erecting telecom towers in the area.”
