The Punjab government has announced fare reductions on the Orange Line Train for customers. During a meeting, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi made the news.
The decision allowed for phase wise train fares as well as free travel for the elderly and individuals with special needs.
The meeting also decided to give discounted tickets to students and women. Salman Ghani, ex-chairman of Planning and Development, and GM Sikandar, former Principal Secretary to the CM, have also formed an advisory council to convert the Orange Line Train to solar power.
In order to increase the usage of ecologically friendly public transportation, the CM also launched a trial project for electric buses in Lahore.
In August 2021, the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) requested that train prices be set based on distance to destinations. According to the proposed plan, the government will charge:
Rs. 20 for up to 5 kilometres, Rs. 30 for up to 10 kilometres, Rs. 40 for up to 15 kilometres, Rs. 50 for up to 20 kilometres, Rs. 60 for up to 25 kilometres, and Rs. 70 for up to 25 kilometres and beyond.
