Punjab to Make Teaching License Mandatory for All School Teachers

The Punjab School Education Department has decided to introduce a mandatory teaching license for educators across the province, a move aimed at raising the standards of education.

According to reports from City42, the license will be granted after candidates pass a test and will remain valid for five years. It will be issued at three levels—Primary, Elementary, and Secondary—with future appointments and promotions restricted to licensed teachers only.

The requirement will apply to educators in both public and private schools, with no individual permitted to teach without a valid license.

The proposal now awaits final approval from Chief Minister Punjab, after which the new licensing system will be formally implemented.
