The Punjab Excise Department is experiencing issues with its registration and transfer systems.
Following a problem in the biometric registration and transfer system, the Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department will stop biometric verification for three months.
The system has failed due to a mismatch between the old and new vehicle registration systems, according to the facts.
Earlier this year, the department replaced the old manual system with a new biometric one, but it struggled to connect the old car data with the new system, resulting in significant delays.
The suspension will be in effect from September 11, 2022 until December 11, 2022. In the meantime, the government will merge data from around 177,000 old automobiles into the new system.
The government stated that the three months are a grace period for people wanting to register or transfer their vehicle.
The Punjab government has integrated the biometric system into the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
The new system requires purchasers and sellers to transfer or register their vehicles bio-metrically within 30 days.
The system will combine all automobile data into a single database, allowing for easier monitoring and accountability.
The public and auto dealers praised the excise department’s move, which provides simplicity and transparency.
