SKARDU: Popular Pakistani singer Quratulain Balouch, widely known as QB and loved for her hit “Woh Humsafar Tha”, was injured in a rare bear attack while camping in Deosai National Park, Gilgit-Baltistan, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to hospital sources, the singer sustained injuries on both her arms during the incident. She was quickly shifted to the Regional Hospital Skardu, where doctors have assured that she is out of danger and receiving proper treatment.
Balouch, who holds dual Pakistani-American nationality, had been visiting Skardu to explore the scenic landscapes of Deosai, also known as the “Land of Giants.” The park, covering more than 3,000 square kilometers, is famous for its rolling plains, wildflower meadows, and rare wildlife including the Himalayan brown bear, red fox, and golden marmot.
Rising Risk of Human-Wildlife Encounters in Deosai
Wildlife experts note that the brown bear population in Deosai has remained stagnant at around 75 in recent years. Increasing tourism and human encroachment into bear habitats have raised concerns of dangerous encounters, with conservationists stressing the need for stricter safety measures for both visitors and animals. Hunting is strictly prohibited in the park, which is recognized as part of the Himalayan Biodiversity Hotspot.
QB’s Musical Journey
Quratulain Balouch first gained recognition in 2011 with her rendition of Reshma’s “Ankhian Nu Ren De.” She later rose to stardom with her performance of the drama title track “Woh Humsafar Tha,” earning her the nickname “Humsafar Girl.”
Over the years, she has delivered several acclaimed performances including “Panchi” with Jal in Coke Studio, “Sammi Meri Waar,” “Laung Gawacha,” “Thagyan,” and the Bollywood song “Kaari Kaari” from the film Pink.
Despite the frightening incident in Deosai, fans across Pakistan and beyond have expressed relief that the singer is safe and recovering.
