According to investigators, Sarah’s postmortem investigation revealed physical abuse.

Police said the cause of her death will be known after the forensic report is received.

Sarah was put to rest at an Islamabad graveyard.

According to News, quoting sources, an important shift has taken place in the murder case of Sarah Inam, as her parents have decided to represent themselves in court during the trial, while police have been informed of the recent development in this respect.

On September 23, Sarah Inam, the daughter-in-law of well-known writer Ayaz Amir, was reportedly murdered at home by his son, Shahnawaz, after a quarrel about a “family matter.”

He was arrested by police at a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad region as a suspect in his wife’s murder and later confessed, claiming he “thought” his wife was having an affair. The couple had only been married for three months.

Sarah’s parents travelled to Pakistan shortly after her daughter’s murder to administer the funeral rites. She was put to rest at a nearby cemetery in Islamabad today, after the arrival of her parents.

According to the police, the victim’s cell phone was found, and the police also obtained her postmortem report.

“Sarah’s postmortem report proved physical abuse,” police added. “However, the reason of her death will be disclosed after the forensic report is obtained.”

Sarah Inam, who was she?

Sarah Inam, 37, was a successful Canadian economist who worked for Deloitte and USAID at various periods in her career. She had just been married to Shahnawaz for three months when she was killed.

According to friends and relatives, she held a master’s degree from the University of Waterloo and was now engaged in the government sector in the United Arab Emirates.

Sarah’s father, mother, and two older brothers survive her.

The situation

Following the event on September 23, Shahnawaz was detained by police from a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad region as a suspect in his wife’s murder, and later confessed to murdering her, claiming he “thought” his wife was having an affair. The couple had only been married for three months.

The next day, a trial judge issued arrest warrants for Ayaz Amir and his ex-wife Sameena Shah, who had been named as suspects by Sarah’s family. Amir was arrested, but his ex-wife was granted pre-arrest bail.

An extra clause of Section 109 (penalty for aiding and abetting) of the Pakistan Penal Code was added to the police report after the murder at the request of Sarah’s uncles, Colonel (retd) Ikram and Zia-ur-Rahim, who have accused Ayaz Amir and his former wife for their niece’s murder.

According to the petitioners, Sameena was living at the farmhouse where Sarah was murdered.

However, on September 27, an Islamabad court dismissed Ayaz Amir’s case, finding “no proof” against him in Sarah’s murder.
