Syncing your primary WhatsApp account with a tablet will become much simpler in the near future.
The messaging app intends to give formal capability for linking a tablet to a WhatsApp account.
The functionality was discovered, as usual, by the guys at WABetaInfo.
Companion mode, a multi-device feature that allows you to sync your account to a separate mobile device, was first observed in May of this year.
It was assumed that it would be restricted to smartphones, but it looks that WhatsApp is bringing it to tablets as well, as shown in the most recent Android beta version.
The functionality will function in the same manner as WhatsApp Desktop, as seen in the image.
Simply launch WhatsApp on your tablet and scan the QR code to sign in. Scan this QR code with your primary WhatsApp account on your smartphone, and all of your chats will be synchronised across the two devices.
You’ll need a working internet connection on your phone to transfer all of your conversations and media to the secondary device, but once they’re synchronised, you can use WhatsApp on your tablet without needing to connect to the internet on your phone. Even if your primary smartphone is an iOS device, this will work.
It is unclear if this will be accessible for iPads.
Because the functionality is still in early development, we may see further changes in the future, such as updated appearance or support for other features.
The new companion mode for Android tablets is now only accessible to a select test users, and it is unclear when it will be available to everyone.
Nevertheless, it is definitely in the works, and it will ultimately be accessible for public use.
