The power outage has still to be resolved; the situation will be clear after 3 p.m.: sources

  • Cities may experience up to four hours of load shedding, while rural regions may experience up to twelve hours.
  • According to NTDC authorities, the defect is not yet identified.
  • According to reports, the country still faces a 4,500MW power deficiency.

LAHORE: According to the National Transmission and Despatch Company, the nationwide power crisis has not yet been resolved because of a “accidental malfunction” in the national system (NTDC).

According to NTDC sources, the breakdown was severe and could not be managed even after 24 hours since officials had yet to locate the issue. However, they said that the situation will be apparent by 3 p.m.

According to the reports, cities have been subjected to four hours of load shedding, while rural regions have been subjected to a 12-hour power outage.

Meanwhile, electricity plants have not been completely energised, and the nation is still facing a 4,500MW power shortage, with frequency fluctuations complicating matters.

According to the reports, power plants are gradually restoring power to the system. They went on to say that this is the 16th collapse in the previous ten years.

On Thursday, large portions of the country were without power for more than 12 hours due to a malfunction in the national grid’s southern transmission system.

Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir said that the breakdown was caused by a “accidental defect” and announced the formation of a commission to investigate the situation and produce a report within four days.

‘The power supply will be improved.’

Meanwhile, an Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) spokeswoman said that the region’s electrical consumption is 1,280MW, while the national grid supplies 1,080MW.

The situation will improve once the power is restored, according to the spokeswoman.

‘Karachi’s power supply has been stabilized.’
According to a statement issued by K-Electric, the supply of power in Karachi has been restored gradually.

According to the power provider, KE initiated phased restoration operations with a focus on important facilities such as KWSB pumping stations, airports, and hospitals.

Later, the water was shifted to residential areas like as PECHS, Orangi, Lyari, Ibrahim Hyderi, Nazimabad, and Defense Housing Authority, among others.

The technical restrictions on the national grid may remain for the next 48 hours, and in order to manage the constraints, KE may temporarily reduce power delivery to industrial zones during the evening hours to help residential regions.

According to the power company, load shedding may also be needed.
