The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has begun giving licences for Internet of Things (IoT).
The telecom regulator has given IoT licenses to four businesses and updated its website’s list of IoT operators.
PTA has granted IoT licenses to Noby Solutions (Private) LTD, IoT Technologies (SMC-Private) LTD, LCC Pakistan (Private) LTD, and WeatherWalay (Private) LTD, according to data. The licence was granted to the four firms for a period of five years and may be renewed after that time.
According to the PTA, the authority has granted IoT licences to four operators under Section 5 of the Pakistan Telecommunication Act 1996 and the PTA Regulatory Framework for Short Range Devices (SRD) & Terrestrial Internet of Things (IoT) Services to establish, maintain, and operate an IoT Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) network for the provision of LPWAN Services in Pakistan.
The government granted IoT licences to all four operators after they met all of the standards outlined in the checklist.

According to PTA, operators are expected to submit PTA with reports on any network expansions in terms of Gateways installed/added, as well as any other information as requested by PTA from time to time.
Because IoT solution providers often exploit the connection of current Cellular Mobile carriers, they are not obliged to install any new ground stations.
However, if the operator is necessary to deploy a new base station for any technical reason, this base station will be registered with the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) through PTA, and the corporation is obliged to get PTA clearance before installing the new Gateways.
In February of this year, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority released a Regulatory Framework for Short Range Devices (SRD) and Terrestrial Internet of Things (IoT) Services. The framework offers a regulatory structure for the sector, allowing for the growth of Pakistan’s IoT ecosystem.
IoT is a significant Fourth Industrial Revolution technology that is used to power smart city systems and digital services such as smart homes, smart meters, transportation, and so on.
