First pediatric cardio thoracic surgery was successfully carried out at Maroof Hospital in Islamabad on a kid of six months old who was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect (VSD). The operation was carried out by a team of two specialists.
The spokeswoman for MIH, Rubina Afzal, disclosed the fact that the surgery was carried out by a group of internationally trained pediatric cardiologists and cardio thoracic surgeons headed by Dr. Mahim Akmal Malik and Dr. Muhammad Tariq Jamil. The team was lead by Dr. Mahim Akmal Malik.
She further said that the patient was released from the hospital after a period of 72 hours.
According to Dr. Malik, congenital heart problems are quite different from the prevalent cardiac disorders that affect adults, and it is an additional difficulty to repair hearts in people who have tiny bodies.
According to Dr. Malik, the Pediatric Cardiac Surgeons at Maroof Hospital conduct surgery to treat issues such as gaps between the chambers of the heart, valve difficulties, aberrant blood arteries, damage to the heart, and various congenital and acquired heart disorders.
A hole in the septum that separates the bottom two chambers of the heart is the defining characteristic of a VSD. Because of this, oxygen-rich blood is able to seep into chambers of the heart that contain less oxygen-rich blood. Even though a little hole may heal on its own, the child’s condition necessitated surgical intervention.
