TikTok, like Google, Facebook, and Instagram, has developed into an infamous surveillance app.
According to a recent investigation conducted by software expert Felix Krause, TikTok may track your behaviour even if you surf other websites through the app.
TikTok analyzes every move you make on the internet.
How Does It Work?
The study, which was published on Thursday, shows that TikTok may insert a code into websites you visit through a link in the app. So because websites are accessed in the in-app browser rather than Chrome or Safari, the code modifies them to facilitate tracking.
This allows the Chinese software to monitor your keystrokes and website activities. TikTok may easily use this to get sensitive information such as credit card numbers and passwords.
Krause responded to his results by saying:
The company took an active decision in this regard. This is a difficult technical endeavour that does not occur by accident or at random.
Tiktok has not responded to a request for comment, although TikTok’s in-app browser does include this code, according to Forbes.
The app, however, does not use the code to track people on the internet, according to the spokeswoman.
We use an in-app browser, like other platforms, to provide an ideal user experience, but the Javascript code in question is solely used for debugging, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring of that experience, such as checking how fast a website loads or if it crashes.
As according TikTok, this code is part of a third-party software development kit (SDK) and has features that TikTok does not utilize.
