Karachi Paralyzed as Flooding Forces Road Closures and Citywide Gridlock
Bridge Closures for Safety
Authorities in Karachi shut down the Korangi Crossing River Bridge and ABM Causeway after flooding from the Malir nullah created dangerous conditions. Officials said the closures were necessary to protect commuters as water levels continued to rise across the city.
Traffic Chaos Across the City
The move sparked severe traffic jams, with long queues reported at Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Jam Sadiq Bridge, the Expressway, and Brooks Chowrangi. Eyewitnesses and traffic police confirmed that thousands of commuters were left stranded for hours.
Emergency Measures
Traffic police said diversion routes and emergency teams have been deployed to manage the crisis. Residents were urged to avoid flood-hit zones and follow official advisories for alternative routes.
Heavy Rainfall Continues
Karachi has been battered by continuous rainfall since Tuesday, with showers persisting into Thursday. Key areas including Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, and Shahrah-e-Faisal witnessed heavy to moderate downpours, worsening road conditions.
