With 4 new models, Huawei's top-of-the-line Mate phones are back.

Huawei finally added four new phones to its top-of-the-line Mate series after almost two years of silence.

The Huawei Mate 50, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, the Huawei Mate 50 RS Porsche Design, and the Huawei Mate 50e are all part of the new Mate 50 series, which is only available in China for now.

In this article, we’ll talk about the Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro, two phones with almost the same specs.

Huawei’s camera is still spherical, but this time the lenses are inside the cutout. On top of the base Mate 50’s 6.7-inch OLED screen with 1080p resolution and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate is a punch-hole selfie camera.

The bezels around the screen are very thin. It can show 1 billion different colours and has a fingerprint sensor built into the screen.

The layout of the camera is the same on the Mate 50 Pro, but there is a bit more space between the larger lenses and the laser autofocus units.

The edges of the screen are curved, and it has a wide notch like the one on an iPhone. This notch holds a selfie camera and a 3D face scanner.

It’s a 6.74-inch OLED screen with a 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Touch sampling happens at 300Hz, and high-frequency PWM dimming happens at 1440Hz.
The inside and the storage

Surprisingly, both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, even though many reports said that Samsung would use its standard SD8G1 chip. But because of US sanctions, this is the only version of SD8+G1 that can work with 4G. Since it only works with 4G, it also uses less battery than the 5G version.

Both phones only have 8 GB of RAM, but you can choose between 128/256/512 GB UFS 3.1 storage. There is also a slot for a memory card, but it only works with Huawei’s own nano memory cards.
Huawei’s new Android-based Harmony OS 3.0 runs on all of the devices in this line.
Cameras

The main camera and ultrawide units on both Mates are the same, but the telephoto lenses are different. The main camera has a 50MP sensor, OIS, and a variable aperture with six blades that goes from f/1.4 to f/4.0.

The ultrawide camera has a 13MP lens, and the 5x zoom telephoto camera has a 12MP lens.

The Mate 50 Pro, on the other hand, has a 64MP OIS telephoto sensor.
Both phones have 13MP ultrawide selfie cameras, but the Mate 50 Pro also has a 3D sensor for unlocking the phone with your face.
Price and Battery

The specs for the batteries are also almost the same.

The battery in the Pro model is 4,700 mAh, while the one in the base model is 4,460 mAh. Both can be charged with wires at 66W and wirelessly at 50W.

In China, the Huawei Mate 50 starts at $720, while the Mate 50 Pro will cost $980. We don’t know yet if it will be available abroad.
