TikTok’s dominance in the social media industry has had an impact on nearly every other social app throughout time. Instagram and Facebook introduced Reels, YouTube launched Shorts, and now Twitter is entering the race with its own vertical video style.
In a recent blog post, the social media behemoth said that its video player would become more “immersive.”
Tapping on a video now takes it full screen, and you may explore more by scrolling through them, much to TikTok or Instagram Reels.
Twitter will also include a video carousel in its Explore page, displaying “some of the most popular videos uploaded on Twitter.” This should make vertical videos more accessible to everybody.
According to the blog post, vertical videos will begin to appear in the Twitter app for iOS in the coming days, and videos in the Explore tab are “already accessible to people in select countries” for Android and iOS users. This indicates it should be accessible in Pakistan later this month.
Reels and YouTube Shorts have proven to be quite popular on Instagram and YouTube, but it remains to be seen how successful they will be on Twitter. Unlike its competitors, Twitter has traditionally emphasized text-based messages, so it’s uncertain how vertical videos would do for the bird app.
In other news, Twitter is finally working on the long-awaited edit button for tweets. The bad news is that it will initially be offered exclusively to paying customers (Twitter Blue).
It may ultimately become accessible to everyone, but no assurance has been provided.
The feature should save many individuals from making embarrassing mistakes and other mistakes in their tweets. We’ll keep you updated on new Twitter features.
