Pakistan has added another medal to its collection as wrestler Zaman Anwar won Silver in the wrestling arena at the current Commonwealth Games 2022, raising the country’s overall count to five.

Zaman Anwar had beaten England’s Mandhir Kooner in the semifinals before losing the Men’s Freestyle 125 kg final against Canada’s Amarveer Dhesi in an exciting bout that finished with Amarveer winning by 2-9. After the final match, Zaman told the reporters, “I thank God for enabling me to fight in the finals.”

It’s heartbreaking not to have won the gold medal. The last opponent was an Olympian, but it was a terrific contest.” “The training was nice, but international-style training would have been preferred,” he replied when questioned about it. While our opponents had worldwide preparation, we just went from our homes to participate.”

It is Pakistan’s second Silver medal in the main event, after Inam Butt’s Silver medal in the Men’s Freestyle 86 kg wrestling division. Pakistan presently holds one gold medal, two silver medals, and two bronze medals.

Nooh Dastagir Butt is the lone weightlifting gold medalist from Pakistan, with Inayat Ullah and Hussain Shah getting bronze in wrestling and judo, respectively.

Pakistan’s delegation had a bad start to the tournament, as the majority of the competitors lost their medal campaign on the first day, although several athletes have showed glimmer of optimism for a medal during the showpiece event.

It is worth mentioning that famous Javelin Thrower Arshad Nadeem and Shot Putter Jamshed Ali have advanced directly to the finals in their respective categories and have a good likelihood of winning gold medals.
