For $238, you can get the ZTE Axon 30s with an under-display camera and high-end specs.
Under-display cameras are a niche segment of the smartphone industry, appearing only on expensive or extremely region-limited smartphones.
Some phones with an under-display camera include the Xiaomi Mix 4, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3/4, and ZTE Axon 40 Ultra, although they are either expensive, exclusive to China, or both.
However, ZTE’s new Axon 30s seeks to make the technology far more affordable, albeit it is currently only available in China.
Display and Design
Because of its under-screen camera, the ZTE Axon 30s boasts a pristine edge-to-edge display. This is a massive 6.92-inch OLED panel with 1080p resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It supports 1 billion colours as well as HDR10.
The fingerprint sensor is located under the display, and ZTE has refined under-display camera technology to the point where it is almost invisible.
Software and Internals
Despite being a low-cost phone, it is equipped with the high-end Snapdragon 870, which outperforms most recent upper mid-range chipsets. It will be offered in two memory configurations: 8 GB/128 GB and 12 GB/256 GB, as well as a memory card slot.
In terms of software, it includes Android 12 OS with MyOS 12 on top.
Cameras
The primary camera on the rear has a 64MP sensor that is 1/1.73′′ in size and is partnered with an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth lens. It is one of the few mid-range phones that can capture 4K 60 FPS video with 10-bit colours and HDR.
The under-display selfie camera has a 16MP sensor, however it’s worth noting that UD cameras often have poor picture quality.
Pricing and Battery
The battery has a capacity of 4,200 mAh and supports 55W rapid charging; a suitable charger is supplied in the package.
In China, the ZTE Axon 30s starts at at $238. It will be offered in two colours: black and blue.
