Floods cost Pakistan Railways Rs. 100 million per day.

According to a senior railway official, Pakistan Railways (PR) has been losing roughly Rs. 10 crore per day as a result of the heavy monsoon rains and subsequent floods throughout the nation.

Rain and floods have destroyed multiple railway lines, and trains have halted in yards, rendering many regions of the nation inaccessible.

Quetta was cut off from the rest of Pakistan earlier this month due to the collapse of the train bridge at Mach Station, which resulted in the cancellation of seven critical rail operations between Karachi and Quetta.

Pakistan Railways (PR) declared a few days ago announced five express trains on the Main Line-1 (ML-1) would’ve been halted till the rails were rehabilitated.

The operations of Awam Express, Pakistan Express, Karakoram Express, Jafar Express, Mohenjo Daro Express, Taizgam Express, Karachi Express, and Bolan Mail Express have been halted due to flooding, according to a PR representative.

Farrukh Taimur Ghilzai, PR CEO, said on Monday, “Due to the rain and flood scenario in Sindh and Balochistan, we are left with no choice but to halt operation [sic] of these trains.” It was done for the sake of the passengers’ safety.”

“Right now, floodwater is flowing across our main line between Tando Masti Khan-Gambat and Mehrabpur-Lakhro sections.” Similarly, the track is under water in many locations in Balochistan,” he said.

Ghilzai further said that trains from Karachi and Peshawar to Quetta would now halt at Sibi because of the collapse of the city’s rail bridge. He also said that the rail restoration work would be managed by the National Logistics Cell (NLC).
